RUGACILLINE (Ampicillin Powder for Oral Suspension)

Rugacilline is a brand of Ampicillin, a broad spectrum semi-synthetic penicillin combining bactericidal activity with proven safety. It is effective against non-penicillinase producing Gram-negative organisms including salmonella and shigella species. Haemophilus influenza, proteus species, Neisseria species, Escherichai coli and other susceptible Gram-positive organisms like Streptococcus species and penicclin sensitive staphylococcus.

Indications:

Respiratory tract infections, ear, nose and throat infections. Urinary tract infections, Enteric fever, skin and soft tissue infections.

Dosage and Administration:

Administer: ½ – 1 hour before meals
Children up to 2 years ½ teaspoonful 4 times daily
2 to 6 years teaspoonful 4 times daily
6 to 12 years 1½ teaspoonful 4 times daily or as directed by physician
Adult 1-2 capsules 4 times daily or as directed by the physician

Preparation of the Suspension:

To make 60ml/100ml of the suspension and 40ml/75ml of boiled and cooled water, invert and shake the bottle until all the powder is dispersed. Alternatively gradually add boiled and cooled water to half of the bottle. Shake well and slowly add more water up to make on the label.

SHAKE WELL BEFORE TAKEN EACH DOSE

Storage:
The dry powder should be stored below 25oC.

Precautions:
Reduced dosage is required with impaired reneal functions e.g. Renal failure, neonates and premature infants.

Side Effects:
As with other penicillin, side effects are usually of a mild transitory nature. They may include diarrhea, indigestion or occasionally rashes, either urticaria, which suggests penicillin hypersensitivity or erythematous. An erythematous rash may be caused in patient with glandular fever, in which case it is advisable to discontinue therapy.

250mg Ampicillin as the Trihydrate B.P in blister packs of 10’s x 2, 10’s x 100, 10’s x 50 .
